Flexenclosure, a specialist developer of intelligent power management systems and pre-fabricated data centres for the ICT industry, has been nominated for a DCD 2013 EMEA award recognizing leadership and innovation in the data center industry. Flexenclosure, together with Vodacom Mozambique, has been nominated in the Most Extreme Data Centre Deployment category for its roof-top deployment of a disaster recovery facility in just eight days.
DatacenterDynamics has announced the finalists for its 2013 EMEA Awards, which recognize leadership and innovation in the data center industry. Flexenclosure and Vodacom Mozambique have been nominated for an award in ‘the most extreme data centre deployment’ for the deployment of a new eCentre data centre on top of an existing six storey building in Mozambique’s capital Maputo. Flexenclosure’s eCentre, a modular and prefabricated turn-key data centre solution, was deployed in just eight days on top of Vodacom Mozambique’s six storey high headquarters in central Maputo in May this year. The deployment was a formidable construction challenge since it is believed that it was the first time a modular data centre had been deployed on the roof of another building – anywhere. The largest mobile crane in the country was used for the installation, a pre-equipped data centre to serve as Vodacom Mozambique’s distaster recovery facility. All the detailed technical work was done in a clean environment in Sweden to minimise the amount of civils work needed on site. The data centre was shipped to Mozambique together with a dedicated team of experts from Flexenclosure. From the moment the lifting began it took the Flexenclosure team just eight days to construct, commission and hand over the completed facility to Vodacom. ”We are delighted to have been recognised in this category as proof of the mobility and flexibility of eCentre,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. ”Our customer-focus and quest for perfection has given us a history of deploying eCentres in extreme environments – and anywhere else for that matter. We have a great team with an ’anything is possible’ attitude.” The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in London on December 12. The other entries in this category are Colt Technology Services, Cannon Technologies and Automation. Flexenclosure has won a multitude of telecom and environmental awards over the years, including the International Green Awards, the AfricaCom Awards and several Global Mobile Awards.
