Flexenclosure receives order for energy efficient eCentre communications centre from Telenor Satellite Broadcasting in Norway
20th May 2014
Flexenclosure will supply its increasingly popular eCentre data centre solution to Telenor Satellite Broadcasting AS (TSBc) in Norway. The eCentre will serve as a communications centre for TSBc’s new satellite and moves Flexenclosure into new markets. Flexenclosure is a designer and manufacturer of prefabricated data centres and intelligent power management systems for the ICT industry.
Flexenclosure will supply its trademark eCentre solution to Telenor Satellite Broadcasting AS (TSBc). The eCentre will serve as a communications centre for the new THOR 7 satellite that is expected to launch later this year.
“This order from Telenor Satellite Broadcasting truly propels Flexenclosure into ‘the space age’,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. “We have long been the first choice of mobile operators in developing nations needing modern, energy efficient, future proof and secure data centres that can be deployed very fast. This order proves that eCentre is entirely suitable for ultra high tech solutions in developed countries as well.”
The installation is a turnkey project including transport and installation. The data centre will be manufactured at Flexenclosure’s factory in Vara, Sweden and deployed at Hønefoss, Norway (50km from Oslo), serving as a backup communications facility for the new THOR satellite. The primary control centre is in Oslo.
The eCentre is planned to be operational within four months and will be built to last the lifetime of the THOR 7 satellite. It will consist of one 42m2 IT and equipment building as well as a separate 10m2 energy centre, including a power generator and connection to the grid. The facility will include free air cooling technology, providing TSBc with a highly energy efficient communications centre. Compared with traditional cooling solutions, free air can reduce cooling equipment electricity consumption by more than 60%.
”Flexenclosure has significant experience in prefabricated deployments as well as an ability to customise and supply both the equipment room and energy centre, all of which was important to us”, said Ole Martin Grønli, Senior Project Manager, Technology Division, Telenor Satellite Broadcasting. ”Flexenclosure’s reputation for delivering high-end turnkey solutions and their ability to deliver to short timescales provides us with confidence that they are a choice partner for this element of our THOR 7 programme.”
