Flexenclosure cements strategic partnership with MTN Côte d’Ivoire with a second large data centre order
22nd September 2014
Prefabricated data centre specialist Flexenclosure has received a second large order from MTN Côte d’Ivoire for a customised eCentre. The two technical facilities are the first prefabricated data centre buildings ever to be deployed in the country and they will support MTN Côte d’Ivoire’s quest to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world in Ivory Coast.
Flexenclosure has won a second multi-million dollar order from MTN Côte d’Ivoire for a complete 336sqm data centre. Consisting of an 84sqm hosted data centre, a 168sqm switching centre and an 84sqm energy centre, the facility is to be installed and commissioned in the city of Bingerville in the eastern part of Abidjan – the economic capital of Ivory Coast – in October 2014.
This is the second order in less than a year from MTN Côte d’Ivoire, a market-leading operator in Ivory Coast. The first eCentre was built early this year in Yopougon, a suburb in the northern part of Abidjan, and was officially commissioned in July. (See press release.)
The order cements the newly formed strategic partnership between Flexenclosure and MTN Côte d’Ivoire and supports MTN Côte d’Ivoire’s quest to bring advanced new technology to the country and to realise its vision to “lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to its customers”.
Fully equipped, prefabricated data centre building – customised for MTN
The new eCentre will have the dual role of both a switching centre and a data centre where MTN’s data customers can be hosted. The facility has been customised for MTN and will be delivered as a full turnkey project including civil works and installation of the eCentre modules.
Leadcom, a global telecom system integrator, is Flexenclosure’s local partner in Ivory Coast and will be responsible for the civil works portion of the project, supporting Flexenclosure’s specialist team in the installation and commissioning of the eCentre.
”We are delighted to be extending our relationship with MTN Côte d’Ivoire with another of our eCentres,” said David King, CEO of Flexenclosure. “We have pioneered the introduction of prefabricated data centres to a number of countries in Africa, and it’s clear that our eCentre technology is the best solution for the on-going evolution of the continent’s data and telecoms infrastructure.”
“We chose eCentre again because we want the best solution to meet the rapidly growing needs of our customers,” said Wim Vanhelleputte, CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire. “The first roll-out of eCentre was a resounding success so it was easy to choose Flexenclosure’s solution yet again. With our two new eCentre facilities in place, we will be perfectly positioned to manage the on-going explosion in data traffic, to deliver next generation services to our customers and to lead the expansion of the digital economy in Cote d’Ivoire.”
In recent years Ivory Coast has benefited from strong economic growth, with GDP having grown by 9.8 per cent in 2012, by 8 per cent in 2013 and an expected 8.2 per cent for 2014. The mobile penetration rate stands at 88 per cent (est. 2014).
